What goes into the costs of video production?

So you want to get some videos made for your business. You don’t know how much it all costs, you don’t know what you should be paying, you don’t want to get ripped off and you’re wondering why it all costs so much?

Well, hopefully we can help bring a little bit of understanding around what goes into video production.

There are a few things you’ll be paying for working with a videographer/video team. Firstly there’s their gear, which is very expensive. Video production requires multiple cameras, multiple lenses, drones, microphones, tripods, gimbals, filters and more. Then there’s the editing equipment - the big expensive computers required to process the high quality records such as 4K and the expensive programs used to edit.

Oh and then there’s the extensive time involved in not just editing but; processing footage, colour grading footage, digging through thousands of songs to find the perfect match for your brand and video and all sorts of other touch-ups to get your brand looking as good as possible.

Aside from all of these material things is then also your videographer’s experience, their creativity and artistry.

Video producers aren’t simply cameramen/women. This isn’t just a point, shoot and deliver situation.

There are hours of critical and creative thinking that go into mapping out a shoot before it even takes place. There are hours that will then go into creating a hard-copy plan for all of this in a document that can be shared with all parties, and then there will be hours on the day of a shoot that go into making sure this all goes ahead as planned.

Experience is beyond invaluable with video production too. You can’t imagine how much can go wrong, and people with years of experience have the knowledge and skills to mitigate serious disaster. This is a huge part of what you pay for with video. Mistakes can still be made by even the highest level professionals with decades of experience, there are so many factors that can contribute to mistakes happening during a shoot. But in hiring someone with vast experience and runs on the board, you are going to be reducing the risk of wasting your time and money by a big margin.

The same goes for editing. Using someone who has been doing it for years means they are going to have a lot more skill and tricks in their bag, It can also often mean you get your video faster as they operate at higher speed.

At the end of all this we’re left with ideas. And ideas are literally THE most invaluable thing of all when it comes to video production.

I’ll take a super creative, well thought out video shot on an iPhone, over a dull, boring, lifeless video shot on a RED Cinema Camera any day!

This is a very interesting comparison as the first one may not cost you as much as the second option, but I can guarantee you, you will get better results.

And that’s what video marketing, business ads, business videos in general is all about - delivering you with excellent results.

So when you find a video operator that you think might be a good fit for your brand, get in touch with them and pick their brain for these things above - have they done anything similar to what they’re after? Or do they have some great ideas that could take your business to the next level?
